What is an APS system?

Advanced Planning and Scheduling evaluates demand, materials, capacity, labor, tooling, sequence, and operating constraints to build an executable plan and expose the tradeoffs behind customer commitments.

An Advanced Planning and Scheduling system creates a constraint-aware plan for what the operation should produce, source, or prepare and when that work can happen. It reconciles demand with materials, capacity, labor, equipment, tooling, setup, calendars, priorities, and other limits.

MRP calculates material requirements from demand, inventory, lead times, and product structures. APS adds detailed capacity and sequencing logic around the plan. ERP remains the authoritative business record, while MES reports what production actually executed.
