SAP Targets the Gap Between Commerce Storefronts and ERP Back-Ends
SAP published the Advanced Success Plan for SAP Customer Experience on July 29, 2026. The plan targets B2B organizations running disconnected commerce, sales, service, and fulfilment operations. It frames the engagement around outcome-based governance rather than implementation delivery alone.
The announcement covers SAP Commerce Cloud, SAP Sales and Service Cloud, and fulfilment process alignment. It also includes access to Business Process Best Practices, a service SAP describes as reference process documentation that bridges gaps created during rapid implementations or multi-solution deployments.
The plan builds on SAP's existing Advanced Success Plan structure, which SAP positions as a tiered engagement above its Foundational Success Plan. SAP's Advanced Success Plan page cites an IDC Business Value White Paper published in April 2026 that attributes a 381% three-year return on investment and $3.4 million in average annual benefits to organizations using elements of the plan.
Those figures are sponsored research and SAP's own reporting; they are not independently verified here.
Why Disconnected CX Processes Are an ERP Problem
The operational case SAP makes is concrete. Breakdowns occur when sales agreements are not reflected in commerce systems, fulfilment is not aligned with order promises, service teams lack customer context, or data differs across channels. SAP's description is a vendor framing, but the failure pattern it names is real. Identifying it in your own environment requires reviewing process handoffs and data consistency across commerce, ERP, and service systems.
The clearest symptom: a customer sees one price in the portal, a different one in the quote, and a third in the order confirmation. That is not a UX problem. It is a data governance failure rooted in how SAP Commerce Cloud, the ERP pricing layer, and the sales quoting tool synchronize — or fail to.
SAP positions the problem as structural rather than technical. Even when the underlying technology is in place, the experience still feels broken if the process is not connected. That framing matters for ERP owners. Adding another integration or portal does not resolve a process that has no single owner across the order-to-fulfilment journey.
58% of global B2B retailers now sell on at least three e-commerce platforms, according to DHL research cited in the SAP Community post. 84% of B2B buyers say it is important for suppliers to operate across multiple online and offline channels, citing Digital Commerce 360 data from 2025. SAP uses both figures to justify the scope of the engagement, not to define product specifications.
The operational complexity behind that buyer expectation is significant. B2B environments require managing customer-specific pricing and contracts, large and dynamic product catalogs, multi-step approvals, distributed fulfilment models, and integrations across commerce, ERP, sales, and service systems. Each of those elements touches a data object or workflow that lives primarily in the ERP. Commerce cloud and CRM layers depend on that data being current and consistent.
What the Advanced Success Plan Actually Includes
SAP describes the plan's scope across several dimensions. The engagement covers enabling consistent omnichannel experiences, aligning SAP Commerce Cloud, SAP Sales and Service Cloud, and fulfilment processes, managing catalog and contract complexity at scale, improving order sourcing and fulfilment coordination, and strengthening end-to-end process alignment.
The Business Process Best Practices component is explicitly positioned as remediation for fragmented processes created when implementation of multiple solutions does not take into consideration the unique end-to-end view. That is a direct acknowledgment that rapid SAP CX deployments often produce exactly the disconnected state the plan is meant to fix.
The broader Advanced Success Plan structure includes innovation and adoption guidance, activation and optimization sessions with unlimited access, AI-driven quality and process guidance, orchestration through assigned subject experts, and enhanced support SLAs with faster initial response and resolution commitments for high-priority cases.
The announcement does not state specific pricing. Existing SAP Preferred Success customers should note that SAP is offering the opportunity to transition to the new success plans at the upcoming renewal of SAP Preferred Success and SAP solutions contracts, while current contract terms continue to be honored through their expiration.
What ERP and Operations Leaders Should Do Now
This plan is relevant to any organization running SAP Commerce Cloud alongside SAP S/4HANA or other SAP ERP products, where those systems have been implemented by separate teams or in separate phases.
The practical audit question is process ownership, not technology readiness. Before evaluating the plan or entering a renewal conversation, operations leaders should identify a single named owner for the order-to-fulfilment journey that spans the commerce portal, the ERP pricing and inventory layer, and the service interaction record. If that owner does not exist, the Business Process Best Practices component is likely the most relevant starting point.
Specific signals that the gap SAP describes is active in your environment:
- Pricing inconsistencies between the commerce portal and ERP order confirmation
- Service teams querying the ERP manually to answer fulfilment questions already visible in the commerce layer
- Catalogue or contract changes in the ERP that are not reflected consistently in the customer-facing portal
- Fulfilment exceptions that are resolved outside the system by phone or email rather than through an automated service workflow
If any of those are present, the integration and process alignment work is a prerequisite. The Advanced Success Plan is an engagement model, not a technical fix. Signing up without resolving the underlying process ownership problem first is unlikely to produce the outcome metrics SAP and IDC describe.
The announcement does not state whether the plan requires a minimum SAP CX product footprint or a specific contract tier. If your organization runs SAP Commerce Cloud without SAP Sales and Service Cloud, or vice versa, confirm with SAP which plan elements apply before a renewal negotiation.
